"In memory's lovely garden, where remembered joy blooms fair, your memory, dearest Mother, is the brightest blossom there."
The family of our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Margaret Alice Burks, rejoice and pay tribute to her memory which will reside in the hearts of all who were blessed in knowing her. Family and friends will miss her smile that brightened our days, blue-gray eyes that sparkled with joy, beauty and grace that taught us that tenderness, kindness, gentleness and love would guide us on our own paths towards all the happiness life has to offer.
On August 1 we celebrated her 90th birthday, so thankful to share an embrace and hear her soft voice spoken with love and gratitude.
Margaret walked always with Jesus by her side, faithfully demonstrating the qualities of Christ her Lord and Savior. She was a remarkable and magnificent Child of God and was greatly admired for her devotion, loyalty and the gift of service to all those in need.
She was a member of Woodland Heights Christian Church where she and her husband enjoyed Senior Saints and she coordinated service activities.
After a brief stay in a physical rehabilitation facility she returned to her home July 28 where she was cared for by her family and assisted by Indiana University Arnett Hospice.
On August 12 at 9:30 a.m. she took her last breath on this earth and is now in Heaven, reunited with those gone before her. As much as she loved life how much greater her joy must be amongst angels.
Born August 1, 1921, she was the eldest of 14 children. Margaret was married on October 12, 1942 to Carroll Burks and was widowed in 1995 after being married for 55 years.
Their children are Norma Richardson, Janet Neel (both of Lafayette) and David (Jody) Burks of Dover; 5 Granddaughters Julie Neel (David) Montgomery, Jennifer Neel, Elizabeth Richardson Orsak, Michelle Burks (Kenny) Kehl and Tiffany Burks (Vern) Mihill; 6 Great-Grandchildren Andrew (Halie) Montgomery, Joshua Montgomery, Dillon Orsak, Katie and Emily Wildrick, Jordan and Taylor Kehl; 1 Great-Great Grandson Rylan Montgomery and 2 expected later this year.
A Memorial Service will be held at Hunt & Son Funeral Home on Monday, August 15 at 2 p.m. Margaret's final resting place will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery alongside her husband.
