Margaret J. Gardner DeVries, 91, passed on to heaven, on Tuesday, July 9,2013, at 4:45am, at Whitlock House Assisted Living, Crawfordsville. She was born on July 14, 1921, to James and Maggie Bell Hougland Gardner in Scottsburg, IN. She graduated from Scottsburg High School and a business school, was a homemaker, and retired from Sears and Roselyn Bakery. On October 27, 1947, Margaret married John William DeVries, who died on November 30, 1989.
She lived in their Whiteland home for 54 years and was a member of Honey Creek Methodist Church, Ladies Aid, and a Home Ec. Club.
She is survived by daughters Martie (Steve) Akers, Mary (Gary) Hess, and a son, Bill(Carrie) DeVries, grandchildren, Zach (Stephanie) Akers, Katie (Clay) Gullatt, and Erin (Aaron)Doran, and great-grandchildren, Faith and Lili Akers, Jaxon and future baby Gullatt, Connor and Cooper Doran, and Bailey McMahan.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Josh Akers, and a very dear sister and brother-in-law Harold and Alma Gray. She will always be remembered by her sweet disposition and her desire to please everyone around her.
Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM Saturday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Isaac Zull officiating. Friends may call 10AM-11AM Saturday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be 3:00 PM Saturday at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, IN.
