Obituary

"Margy" was born June 14, 1928 to Clayton and Margaret (Brennan) Eyler.  She was raised in Mace, IN and Crawfordsville, IN.  She attended St. Bernard's School and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1946.  She met David McCafferty shortly thereafter and they were married in Sept 1947.  This was despite the fact that Dave was from Darlington and her "mother would never let me date county boys because they had cars and she didn't want me car dating… so I married one."  They were married for 77 years.

She began playing the organ for St Bernard's church in 1942 (at age 14) and did so until she retired from that position in 2019 (at age 91).  In addition to playing for mass, she played for dozens of weddings and funerals.  She was a music staple at St Bernard Catholic Church for nearly 80 years.  Not leaving that to be her only musical legacy, she also taught piano in the 1970s and 80s.  She taught many children and young adults to play and appreciate music.

She worked for RR Donnelley after high school as an operator, prior to starting a family.  In the 1980s she worked for Crawford Industries as a sales representative.

In the mid 1980s, Margy decided it was her turn to return to school.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelors in Psychology from St Mary of the Woods College in 1987.  And followed that by earning her Master's Degree in Family Counseling from the Christian Theological Seminary in 1998.   She worked for Cummins Behavioral and independently as a family counselor until she retired in 2015.

She was active with many groups in Montgomery County, including Rotary and the Democratic party.  She enjoyed the many relationships she built through the Center for Peace and Life Studies/Family Camp, as well as bridge clubs, book clubs, and the Dream Group.

Margy valued her friends dearly and our family is so grateful for all the support that her current friends group has provided in the last year.  But we also know that are so many good friends waiting for her in the afterlife.

Family members who have already passed on include her husband Dave, parents Clayton and Margaret, and sisters Rosemary Eyler, Betty Ruhmkorff, Carolyn Henderson, and Donna Lee Clark.  She is survived by her daughter Patt McCafferty (David Nickens), sons Michael (Jiyoung Lee), Brian, and Dan (Lisa), as well as by her brother Thomas Eyler, and many nieces and nephews and their families.

In that last 27 years, she loved nothing more than to be with and brag about her grandchildren, grandson Riley and granddaughter Delaney. They were everything to her.

A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, December 27, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Visitation will be 10:00 am-12:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, she would love it if you donated to Meals on Wheels via the Montgomery County Free Clinic, https://wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E202619&id=3
