Mary Goldena Davis, 86, Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully at Wellbrooke , Thursday, January 8, 2015. She was born September 15, 1928 in Cedar Flat (Metcalf County) , Kentucky, the daughter of John Alec and Matilda (Ferguson) Froedge. Goldena attended a one room school house until the age of nine, when her family moved to Delphi, Indiana. The family then moved to Crawfordsville, in 1940. She graduated from CHS in 1947. Following graduation she was employed at Ben Hur Life as a secretary, until 1949. Goldena returned to work after her children were all in elementary school. She served as a secretary for Trinity United Methodist Church for 25 years.
Mary Goldena married Ray Henry Davis on October 3, 1948 at Yountsville Methodist Church. Ray Henry died August 15, 2014 just short of their 66th anniversary.
Goldena was a 50+ year member of Trinity U.M.C. She and Henry served as MYF youth leaders during the 60's. Her love for family and friends was evident in her life to her last breath. She loved her children and grandchildren and consistently gave each encouragement and praise.
She was past president of B.PW. A special thank you to Diana Haughs and the staff of Wellbrooke for their exceptional care of Goldena.
Goldena is survived her children: Barbara (Steve) Johnson, Genoa, IL, Dorothy Davis and Mark Allen, Coral Gables, FL, Warren R. (Julie) Davis, Crawfordsville. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Matthew W.H. (Emily) Johnson, Wonder Lake, IL, Birney H.D. (Angela) Johnson, Benton, KY, Stephen A.D. Johnson, Genoa, IL, Joshua W. (Hannah) Davis, McHenry, IL, Joel (Cyndi) Davis, Lafayette, IN and Jenny Davis, Columbus, OH. Great grandchildren, Tristan, Ethan, Liberty, Madisyn and Alexander Johnson, Jayden and Norah Davis, brother, Lee Froedge of Alabama and sister-in-laws, Mary Ellen Froedge of Florida and Sara Froedge of Indiana. In addition there are 11 nieces and nephews, 22 great nieces and nephew and 17 great great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers and sister-in-laws, Ralph and Barbara Froedge, Elton and Edith Froedge, Harold Froedge and Donald Froedge and nephew Bruce Froedge.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Friday, January 16 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 110 S. Blair St., with Pastors Chris Renick and Matthew W. H. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North. Visitation will be 11:00 AM-1:00 PM Friday in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or The Salvation Army.
