IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Ann
Meek
September 24, 1930 – June 18, 2019
Mary Ann Meek left us for a better world on June 18, 2019. She was born in Champaign County, Illinois to Lela Maude (McCormick) and Thomas E. Dowell on September 24, 1930. She graduated from Jackson High School in Tippecanoe County in 1947. She attended Butler and Purdue Universities. After her parents moved to Montgomery County, Indiana, she met John R. Meek, whom she married in 1951 at First Methodist Church in Crawfordsville. They were devoted to each other until his death in 2012.
Mary Ann was a generous volunteer, serving as a Pink Lady at the Crawfordsville hospitals for decades. She also taught Sunday School for many years and sang in the church choir. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Opti-Mrs. and Art League organizations, the John Purdue Club, Crawfordsville Country Club and the Shriners' auxiliary. She loved the written word, working with textiles, antiquing, and traveling with her loved ones. She worked for The Weekly newspaper, and created patchwork treasures for the Old Jail gift shop. Friends and family across the country recall receiving greeting cards from her. She loved life and people and made sure that those she cared about knew it.
Survivors include Sue Ann Ford of Crawfordsville, Stephen (Carol) Meek of Las Vegas, Nevada, Janet Meek of Indianapolis, and Elizabeth (Richard) Sowers of Crawfordsville. Grandchildren include Adam (Anna) Ford, Daniel (Cali) Meek, Melissa (Will) Sweat, and Ann Virgin-Meek, as well as great-grandson Dominic Meek.
For the past few years Mary Ann lived at Durham Home and then at Bickford of Crawfordsville, where she was given wonderful care.
A celebration of Mary Ann's beautiful life will be held at Hunt and Sons Funeral Home at twelve o'clock noon on Monday, July 1, 2019. Visitation will be from 10:00-12:00. Donations in her memory would be welcomed at First United Methodist Church's Childrens' Program.
