Mary Carolyn Neal Pickel,
85, Crawfordsville, died
Friday at her residence.
She was born April 30,
1923, in her home in
Wingate to Ray R. Neal and
Genevieve Cottrell Neal.
She was a 1941 graduate
of Greencastle High
School and 1945 graduate
of Depauw University.
Mrs. Pickel had been a
teacher for 30 years in Steuben and Tippecanoe
Counties.
She married Mark A. Pickel on June 17,
1947 at Gobin Memorial Methodist Church
and they were divorced in 1982.
She was a volunteer at Wesley Thrift Shop,
volunteer and past president of Montgomery
County American Cancer Society and member
of the Montgomery County Republican
Women's Club. She also had 30 years of service
in Girl Scouting. She a past conference and
district and local officer for United Methodist
Women. She was a member of Deborah Circle
and Crawfordsville First United Methodist
Church Women; member of First United
Methodist Church, Crawfordsville; member
and past local and county officer of Extension
Homemakers Club (Wingate Club); member
and past regent, past state chairman of the
Daughters of the American Revolution
(Dorothy Q. Chapter); and member, past
regent, and past state officer of the Daughters
of the American Colonists (Crawfordsville
Chapter).
Survivors include son Frank (Nancy) Pickel,
Moore, Okla.; daughters Carolyn Pickel, Terre
Haute, Nancy Pickel, Crawfordsville, and Jean
(John) Heise, Kingsport, Tenn.; nine grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren; and several
nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews;
and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by brother Robert
Neal, sister Margaret Jewell, and her parents.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m.
Wednesday, April 15th at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with
Rev. Gary Lewis officiating. Burial will be in
Greenlawn Cemetery, Wingate. Friends may
call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
