Mary Jane Servies, 83, of Crawfordsville passed away on October 25, 2007 at her home.

Mary Jane was born April 29, 1924 in Elmdale, IN to Avery and Leva Merrell. She grew up in Elmdale and later graduated from Wingate High School in 1942. After graduation she went to work at Mid States Steel and Wire in Crawfordsville, Indiana. There she met John R. Servies Jr. They married on March 26, 1943 at her parents home in Elmdale. The groom's father, Rev. John Servies performed the ceremony.

While John spent 38 years in ever increasing leadership positions with Mid States, Mary Jane concentrated on raising thier family. Their travels took them from Crawfordsville, to Cortland, NY, Greenville, MS, and finally back to Crawfordsville. Mary Jane had a positive impact wherever they lived as an active volunteer and church member in their communities. John and Mary Jane enjoyed 49 wonderful years together, John passed away in 1992. Mary Jane's parents and two prothers, Ray and Richard, also preceded her in death.

Surviving is her brother, Russell Merrell of Muncie, IN and her four children and their spouses: Sheila Whitaker and her husband Fred of Greenwood, IN; Tom Servies and his wife Cheryl of Lafayette, IN; Carol Runge and her husband Tom, also in Lafayette; and Steve Servies and his wife Gail of Homer, NY. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00am Monday October 29, 2007 at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Warren Stewart officating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery North. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-5 PM Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
