Obituary

Max W. Johnson, 86, passed away 9:30pm Wednesday at Lane House Nursing Home. Mr. Johnson was born May 18, 1919 in Greenfield, IN. to Milton T. & Edna Jeffers Johnson. He graduated Mt. Comfort High School in 1937 and attended Purdue Ag Winter Course 1938. He served in the US Army during WWII Serving 30 months in Europe as a Master Sergeant with 5 battle campaign ribbons and 2 unit citations. He returned home and worked for Farm Bureau Insurance Company for 39 years retiring in 1984.
Mr. Johnson was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school, 60 year member of American Legion, VFW, American Red Cross, Crawfordsville Kiwanis, Montgomery County Historical Society where he was house chair during the Lane Place restoration, Montgomery County Farm Bureau.
On October 29, 1946 he married Bertha Engelken, she preceded him in death January 4, 1972. On October 26, 1974 he married Mary Frances Gooldy she preceded January 9, 2002.
Survivors include son Bruce Johnson of Monroe, NC, Daughter Judith Lynn (Jack) Crandall of Bloomington, IN., Step children Karen Sue (Ralph) Achenbach of Tipton, IN, John Gooldy of Nobelsville, Martha Gooldy of Rushville. Five Grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a brother Paul Johnson.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Monday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. George Plasterer officiating. Friends may call 1-5 Sunday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery North.
Memorial contributions may be made to Montgomery County Historical Society, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society.
