Michael D. Hinkle, 71, of Batesville, IN and formerly of Crawfordsville passed away Saturday at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.

Mr. Hinkle was retired from the Crawfordsville School Corporation having served as Principal at Tuttle Middle School from 1967-1987, he also taught English at Crawfordsville High School for three years. Prior to that he had taught in Chicago, and Lafayette. His memberships included; St. Bernard's Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, North Central Principals Assoc., BPO Elks #66 of Logansport, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Past president of Phi Delta Kappa, American Oratorical Contest in Indianapolis, Anna Wilson Oratorical Judge, Quiatonon Club, and had Farmed in Carroll County.
His public service included the Crawfordsville Zoning Board, Crawfordsville Planning Commission, Library Board, Crawfordsville School Board and the Crawfordsville Park and Recreation Board. He was also a Sagamore of the Wabash.

Mr. Hinkle was born January 11, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Robert & Mary O'Donnell Hinkle. He graduated from Logansport High School, Notre Dame University 1956 and received his Masters Degree from Purdue University. He served in the US Army from 1956-1958.

He married Sally Watson August 17, 1963 in Logansport, IN, she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Martha Anna Harrington of Indianapolis and Sarah E. Lamping of Batesville, IN. Three Grandchildren Peter Ashton, Ella Grace and Stuart Michael Lamping survive.

A funeral mass will be held 10:00am Thursday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church with the Father David Hellman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Logansport. Friends may call from 2-8pm Wednesday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. A rosary service will be held at 7:00pm Wednesday.
