Michael McKeown, Lake Holiday, Montgomery County, passed away in Miami, Florida, on November 25, 2017, at the age of 76. He was born January 5, 1941, in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Mike was the son of C. Joseph and Marjorie Arils "Young" McKeown. He had two brothers, Reverend James B. McKeown and Charles Joseph McKeown. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother James.
Mike served in the National Guard from 1961-1967. He worked at Crawfordsville Electric Light and Power for 39 years as a Meter Specialist. Mike and his brother Charles "Chuck" McKeown ran McKeown Engineering from 1992 to present. Mike was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
Mike loved the Scouting Program. For 50 years he was associated with developing young men in the Scout Law -A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. He was an Assistant Scout Master with Troop 342. He was the Scout Master for Troops 326 and 361. He oversaw the progression of his scouts to attaining the rank of Eagle Scout to many young men – The wall at the Scout Hut at St. Bernard's is a testimony to the dedication of those young men, their parents, the assistant scout masters and Mike. He was Order of the Arrow (Vigil Honor), Firecrafter (Minisino), received the St. George Award Catholic Character Award, The Silver Beaver. He was instrumental in staging the Closing ceremony, including pyrotechnics, at the National Order of the Arrow gatherings throughout the United States. His scouts had many adventures to Ely, Minnesota for canoeing and fishing, Summer Camp at Land Between the Lakes and hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Mike was a 32 nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite and Shriner at Masonic Lodge 50. He held the positions of Master of the Lodge, Secretary and Commander of the Knights of Templar.
Visitation will be at Hunt and Son Funeral Home, Crawfordsville, IN , on Monday, December 4, from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. A Masonic Service Will be at 5:30 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Bernard's Church, Crawfordsville, Indiana with Father Christopher Schocklee officiating, on Tuesday, December 5, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Crawfordsville, Indiana.
