Michael Wade McMurtrey, lovingly known as Mike, was a devoted family man, a hardworking craftsman, and a friend to so many. Born on July 9, 1960, Mike lived life with a quick wit, a great sense of humor, and a welcoming spirit. He truly never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel at ease with his humor, giving heart, playful personality, and genuine kindness.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, his beloved Harley, NASCAR, shooting pool, go-karts, RC cars, anything with wheels & tires, and, above all, spending time with the people he loved. Family was at the heart of who he was, and the memories he created with those closest to him will be cherished forever.
A skilled concrete finisher for more than 40 years, Mike took pride in his work and dedicated decades of his life to his trade. He was a man of faith and held many treasured roles throughout his life: a beloved son, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend.
Mike is preceded in death by his beloved son, Brandon McMurtrey — father John Dee McMurtrey & Berthanne Storms.
He leaves behind his wife Kelly McMurtrey, his son Michael John McMurtrey, step-children Tyler, Dreyah, Kevin, Asher, granddaughters Brooklyn & Esmae, grandson Josiah, Emeric, and nephew, his loving little sister, Jami Harrington (Travis), who was not only his sister but also his longtime best friend. Their bond was one of a lifetime, and his absence leaves an immeasurable hole in her heart and in the hearts of all who loved him.
Mike will be remembered for his humor, his big personality, his love of family, and the countless lives he touched along the way. Though his passing leaves behind profound sadness, his memory will live on through the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, forever remembered and never forgotten.
A memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, with Pastor Ron Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Donations can be made in his memory to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County.
