Newell Dossett, 88, of Crawfordsville passed away Friday at St. Clare Medical Center.
Mr. Dossett was born April 22, 1918 in Montgomery County to Charles & Jennie F. Whitely Dossett.
He graduated New Ross High School in 1936. He served in the US Army Air Corps from February 20, 1942- October 23, 1945. He completed basic training at Sheppard field. He earned a theater ribbon, seven bronze stars, good conduct medal and one bronze cluster. He was a welder servicing A36, P51 and P47 aircraft. He served in various battles including Sicily, Naples, Rome-Arno, Southern France and the Battle of the Bulge.
Upon returning from service he was a farmer. He was a member of First Christian Church, 55 year member of New Ross American Legion, and a member of the 86th Fighter Bomber group.
He married Martha S. "Opal" Murrell, she survived. He is also survived by his son Tony (Laurie) Dossett of Crawfordsville; three grandsons AJ, Neil, and Aaron Dossett; and four Great Grandchildren, Madison, Natalie, Ava and Aubrey.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00am Monday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in New Ross Cemetery with Military rites at graveside. Friends may call from 4-6pm Sunday.
