Philip L. Snuffer, 83, Crawfordsville, passed away November 7 at Williamsburg Health Care in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He married Clarabelle Altvater in 1984 – Clarabelle passed away three days later on November 10.
Snuffer was born November 6, 1929 in Glen White, West Virginia to Omer and Lula (Cochran) Snuffer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1969 serving in both Korea and Vietnam. He was the owner of Lee-Med, a hospital supply and hearing aid company, with locations in Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Lafayette and Marion. He was a member of the American Legion Post #72. Philip enjoyed doing carpentry and masonry projects and later in life developed a fondness for woodworking.
He is survived by sons, David G. Snuffer (Karen) of Shelbyville, IN, and Avery D. Snuffer (Melva) of W. Lafayette, IN, daughter, Teresa K. Snuffer of Lafayette, IN, sisters, Gloria Lane of Bel Air, MD, Ellen (Bob) Cook of Durham, NC and June Pugh of Gallipolis, OH. Also surviving are stepsons, Bradley W. Spencer (Amy) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Bruce W. Spencer (Gayle) of Ellettsville, IN as well as stepdaughters, Cindy Hanson (Tommy) and Debbie Spencer both of Mount Pleasant, SC. He was also survived by a stepniece (raised as a daughter) Mary Taylor (Evan) of Greencastle, IN.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers, Johnny and Roger, as well as sisters, Helen Lake and Jacqueline Ellison.
Following Philip and Clare's wishes, their life was celebrated in a private remembrance.
