Obituary

Ray Henry Davis, 92, of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 15, 2014.
He was born Dec. 17, 1921, at Crawfordsville, the son of Raymond R. and Marie Sue (Marksbury) Davis. Ray graduated from Alamo High School in 1939. He was employed by Kroger before serving in the Army during World War II from July 1942 to November 1945.He spent two years in Natal, Brazil in the 194th Station Hospital as an X-ray technician and clerk typist. He retired from RR Donnelly & Sons in 1984 as a shift engineer. Ray Henry and Mary Goldena Froedge were married Oct. 3, 1948, at Yountsville Methodist Church.
Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years; and their children, Barbara Sue (Steve) Johnson, Genoa, Ill.; Dorothy L. Davis, Coral Gables, Fla.; and Warren R. (Julie) Davis, Crawfordsville. He also is survived by grandchildren, Matthew W.H. (Emily) Johnson, Wonder Lake, Ill.; Birney H.D. (Angela) Johnson, Benton, Ky.; Stephan A.D. Johnson, Genoa, Ill.; Joshua W. (Hannah) Davis, McHenry, Ill.; Joel A Davis, Lafayette; and Jenny L. Davis of Columbus, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Jayden and Norah Davis and Tristan, Ethan, Liberty, Madisyn and Alexander Johnson.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; sister Phyllis; and brother-in-law Robert Hart.
He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 50-plus years, and served as youth Sunday school teacher for many years. He and his wife were leaders of the youth MYF for several years in the 60's, sang in the church choir and served on many committees.
He had a great love for music and taught guitar and banjo lessons at Lyons Music Store 20-plus years.
In his retirement, he drove for Meals on Wheels for 16 years. He enjoyed riding his bicycle thousands of miles in various sections of many states. His family would often join in the rides. He enjoyed every mile he rode.
He was a member of Byron Cox Post 72 and 69-year member of Alamo Lodge No. 144 F&AM.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday with visitation noon to 2 p.m.at Trinity United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery North.
