Richard Leighton Howell, 80, passed away Saturday evening at his home.
He was born Jan. 21, 1932, to Forest and Margaret Howell. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1949 and from Wabash College in 1953. He belonged to the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Richard served in the United States Army for two years. He married Marilyn Boze on Oct. 5, 1958, and were blessed with two children, Michael Howell (deceased) and Malinda Howell.
He is survived by Malinda and two grandchildren, Nicholas Howell and Joshua Howell and a great-grandchild, Henry Michael Howell.
He was the owner of Indiana Printing Company, Indiana Pad and Paper, The Messenger Crier Newspaper and Everything For The Office, which his son later owned.
Richard was a railroad enthusiast, and a member of the Elk's Club, Rotary Club, the Lion's Club and was a Mason. He was a lifetime member of Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday on Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Van Nuys officiating, with a visitation beginning at 1 p.m. A private burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
