Richard D. "Rick" "Tex" Nelson, 59, Crawfordsville, passed away 6:00 AM Friday at his residence.
Mr. Nelson owned and operated KOA Kampground in Crawfordsville. His memberships included the Masonic Lodge, VFW and Gold Wing Road Riders Assoc.
Mr. Nelson was a graduate of Solomon Juneau High School in Milwaukee, WI. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He earned many medals and awards including, Nationa Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Purple Heart, Purple Heart with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Army Commendation Medal.
He was born August 3, 1946 at McAlester,OK to Odale Edward Neslon and Alene Ward Nelson. He married Georgia Ann Nelson. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include his fiance,Eloda Ann Hall of Tulsa, OK, daughter, Jamie Beth Nelson of Crawfordsville, brother, Donnie Ray (Lynda Rae) Nelson of Memphis, TN along with a niece, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and grand dogs.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Rob Hughes officiating. Friends may call 4-8 PM Tuesday in the funeral home with Masonic Services at 8:00 PM.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery North with military rites by the American Legion and V.F.W.
