Rita Heuss, 85 of Crawfordsville passed away Wednesday at Bickford of Crawfordsville.

Rita was born November 14, 1932 in Muncie to Cleo and Reva Rawlings Gilmore.  She was a 1950 graduate of Parker High School in Muncie, 1954 graduate of Ball State University with a BS in Secondary Education and a 1971 graduate of Indiana State University with a Master's in Education.  Rita worked as a teacher in Muncie from 1954-57, Crawfordsville Schools 1959-60 and North Montgomery Schools 1962-1991. She also worked part time at the Hallmark store 1992-1994.

She was a member of Wabash Ave. Presbyterian Church, Delta Zeta Sorority, Tri Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and Crawfordsville Country Club.  She loved to play bridge, golf and attend the theatre.

On June 20, 1952 she married Jack Heuss in Parker Methodist Church, Parker City, IN. He preceded her in death February 19, 2016.

She is survived by her daughters Jerilyn Yerkes of Crawfordsville, Jeanine (Scott) Long of Strongville, OH and Annelies (Henk) Kerkum of Ridderkerk, Holland. She has a brother Robert (Carol Ann) Gilmore.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Alexandra (Fiancé Aaron Fogle) Long and Chelsea (Ross) McIntosh, as well as step grandchildren Aaron (Kari) Yerkes, Ryan Yerkes, and Amy (Ryan) Stewart.

She was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday December 2 at St. John's Episcopal Church with Rev Jan Oller officiating.  A reception will follow the service.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery South.
