Obituary

LTC (Ret) Robert J. "Bud" McKeown, 69, Sun City Center, Fla., passed on May 19, 2014, while enjoying his favorite pastime playing golf.
Mr. McKeown was born April 3, 1945, at Crawfordsville, to Edward and Myrtle (Hunt) McKeown. He attended St. Bernard's School and was a 1963 graduate of Crawfordsville High School.
He joined the Indiana Army National Guard in 1964 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in June 1971. During his service at the Crawfordsville Armory he held 10 positions, including Battery Commander. He transferred to Tyndall Armory in Indianapolis in 1980. During his 35-year military career he traveled extensively within the United State and to several military bases throughout the world. He was promoted to Lt. Col. on Feb. 14, 1994. His final position with the Indiana National Guard was as Comptroller from 1966 until his retirement on April 16, 1999. He attended many career-development courses and was awarded many military citations, including the Sagamore of the Wabash.
He is survived by his daughter, Martie Jackson and grandson Jesse Nunnally (Valrico, Fla.), sister Patricia McKeown Edmonds, brother-in-law Ed Stewart, several nieces and nephews, and his companion Janie Parks Pate (Danville, Ind.), who all loved him very much.
Not only was Bud a golf enthusiast, he was also a Master Golf Club Making Technician. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War.
He married Pauline Ezra in April 1972 and she passed away in 1983. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth (Libby) McKeown Stewart, and a niece.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Hunt and Sons Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave., Crawfordsville, with Pastor Michael Parks officiating. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m.
