Robert E. Smith Jr. of Crawfordsville died
Jan. 31 at his home. He was 71.
Mr. Smith had worked as a mechanic for
Froedge's Wrecker service before opening his
own business, Smith's Citgo in Waynetown. After he closed
his business he worked for NAPA Auto Parts in Crawfordsville
until retirement. He was an avid race fan and won
several races in the 1960s with his Plymouths.
He served in the Army from 1962 to 1964. He graduated
in 1957 from Crawfordsville High School and Bailey Technical
School at St. Louis.
He was born May 22, 1939, at Crawfordsville, to Robert E.
and Maxine McCarty Smith.
Survivors include two sisters, Sherrill (Joe) Warrick of Tucson,
Ariz., and Suzanne (Ed) Pluhar of Frankfort; and two
brothers, Dan (Janet) Smith of Upland and Dr. James (Sherry)
Smith of Fuquay-Varina, NC.
Funeral services are scheduled for noon Saturday at Hunt
& Son Funeral Home. Private burial will take place at Indian
Creek Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon
Saturday at the funeral home.
