Obituary

Robert Max Rivers of Crawfordsville, passed into the arms of his Loving Savior on April 18, 2018.

Robert was born to Roy and Ruth Rivers on December 29, 1931 in Putnam County, Indiana.  He spent his youth among the woods, fields, lakes and streams of Indiana; hunting with his coonhounds, fishing and swimming  until his met the love of his life, Miriam Della Harrington, who he shared his life with for nearly seventy years.

Robert worked construction many years around Crawfordsville, Indiana and retired from Crawford Industries in 1993, being the fourth employee ever hired when the business started and putting in over thirty years of service. Robert and Miriam were married on March 25, 1951, in her family home in Crawfordsville.  They started a family to which he devoted himself fully as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.  He was a consistent inspiration to his family with patience, humility, discipline and peace that he had obtained through a loving relationship with his Lord and Savior.

Robert was a member of Fremont Street Baptist Church in Crawfordsville where he had been a deacon, song leader and Sunday School teacher.  He truly admired his church family.

Robert is survived by his wife, Miriam Della Rivers along with his four children, James Robert, David Matthew (Paula), Thomas Joel (Sue) and Melody Rene (Lee) Overfelt. Robert has thirteen grandchildren; Adam, Bob (Kathy), Jon, Joe, Bekah, Danny (Shelby), Josh, Brian, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Sexton, Christina, Seth Nunan (Jenny), Haley Nunan, Jamie Overfelt, Ryan (Melissa) Overfelt and Jada as well as an absolute plethora of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is a brother, Charles Rivers.

Robert thrilled his grandchildren with wonderful stories of his youth (bear wrestling), singing songs (Teddy Bear Picnic) and providing plenty of RC Cola, Twinkies and Moon Pies.

A calling will be held at the Fremont Street Baptist Church in Crawfordsville on Saturday, April 21st from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. with the funeral directly proceeding.   Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville.
