Robert Gerald Whitecotton, 90, Crawfordsville, passed away 4:10 PM Friday at St. Clare Medical Center.
Mr. Whitecotton owned New Ross Lumber Co. for 50 years, was affiliated with Town & Country Homecenter and had business interests in New Ross Lumber & Grain Co., Holiday Inn, Washington Manor Apartments, as well as Twin Oaks an Sugar Cliff subdivisions.
He was a United States Navy Veteran having served in World Ward II.
He was a graduate of New Ross High School and attended the University of Notre Dame.
His memberships included St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, 40 & 8 Voiture, Sons of the American Revolution, University Club and was a director at Elston Bank.
He was born on May 16, 1916 at Lebanon to Walter S. Whitecotton and Merle Shahan Whitecotton. He married Ann Elizabeth Gilbert. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2005.
Survivors include, son, Michael G. (Kay) Whitecotton, daughter, Mary Beth (Tom) Harmon, both of Crawfordsville, sister, Rosemary Shubert of Lebanon, grandchildren Jack (Molly) Whitecotton, Maggie Whitecotton, Barbara (Shawn) Lapean, William (Gina) Harmon and Susan (Troy) Jeffrey. In addition, 9 great grandchildren survive.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Whitecotton and a sister, Margaret Franklin.
Funeral Mass will be 1:00 PM Tuesday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church with Father David Hellman officiating. Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum with graveside rites by the American Legion and VFW. Friends may call 11 am until services Tuesday in the church.
