Roger Dale Merrill, son of Alonzo Jewell and Victoria Birge Merrill born November 21, 1953, passed away on December 27, 2019, at Franciscan Health Lafayette.

He was a 1972 graduate of Crawfordsville High School.  Roger loved his family, friends, and life. He never met a stranger. As a young boy, he delivered papers for the Journal Review and Star. He also mowed yards to earn extra money. He worked with his dad and brothers at United Gas station on Mill Street.

After graduation, he worked at Essex International in Lafayette as an inspector, then worked at Crown Cork and Seal in Crawfordsville for 25 years before retiring.

He was proud to serve the community as a storm watcher through Civil Defense for 27 years. He served as Montgomery County Sheriffs Reserve Deputy for 10 years.

Roger belonged to the Crawfordsville Jaycees and the CB Club R.E.A.C.T where he was known as Gas Pumper on the CB.

He loved watching football and NASCAR and going to car shows.

He is survived by his sister Janet who he made his home with, a sister in law Betty Bishop of Crawfordsville and a Nephew Joshua David Merrill as well as several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Carolyn, and brother Larry Dean Merrill in 1994 and Garry Joe Merrill in 2003.

The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at St Vincent Indianapolis, Franciscan Health of Crawfordsville, Greenwood, and Lafayette as well as the Staff at Ben Hur Rehab for their loving care of Roger.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, January 2 at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with visitation 2 hours prior to the service.  Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery North.
