Obituary

Roger Sering, 83, a lifelong resident of Crawfordsville,
passed away at Wellbrooke Nursing Home
Sunday, Aug. 14.
He was born at home in the area known
as Goose Nibble in Crawfordsville on June
21, 1933 to Kenneth and Virginia (Priest)
Sering.
Mr. Sering was a 1951 graduate of
Crawfordsville High School, where he
was a 3-year letterman in football and was
elected honorary co-captain of the 1951
football team.
On March 28, 1952, he married his highschool
sweetheart and love of his life Hazel
Baker of Crawfordsville. She survives.
Mr. Sering served in the National Guard,
Headquarters Battery, 139th Field Artillery,
38th Infantry Division for six years, attaining the
rank of Sgt. E5, a senior wireman and section leader, and
was rated a sharpshooter. He then served two years in the
Reserves.
He worked in the pressrooms of RR Donnelley's for 42
years, and retired from Dept. CTM as a Multi-color Web
Offset Pressman. He was involved in the start-up of four
new presses in Crawfordsville and another in Harrisonburg,
Va., and worked on special projects at the Donnelley plant
in Seymour. He also developed and instructed accelerated
training sessions for new pressroom employees.
After Mr. Sering's retirement from Donnelley's in 1993,
he was a driver for the Sunshine Vans for seven years.
Mr. Sering enjoyed NASCAR, home improvement projects,
the Indianapolis Colts and traveling to Daytona Beach.
He was very artistic, having painted several pictures
which were displayed in his home. He loved and was
very proud of all his family – they were always the most
important thing in his life.
Mr. Sering was also the grandson of Claude Sering, who
was a long-time
candy maker in Crawfordsville. He was also the
great-grandson of William D. Sering of Crawfordsville who
served as a corporal in Lt. B.W. Livermore's Co. #16 Indiana
