Samuel Bert Cripe, 88, of Crawfordsville died at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at IU Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette. Mr. Cripe had been a mechanical engineer, working at Midstates Steel and Wire, BIF General Signal and Indiana Department of Health. He earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue University.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and long time Sunday School teacher. He was born Jan. 9, 1927, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Morris W. and Blanche I. (Pease) Cripe. He married Mary Joanne Edmonds. She survives. Other survivors include: son Dale W. Cripe of North Andover, Mass.; daughter Lisa A. Cripe of Belleville, Ill.; brothers, Jack Cripe of Goshen and Jerome Cripe of Columbia, Md.; and four grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Jonathan and Rebekah. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Keith Strain officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery North. Friends may call noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Hunt & Son Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences
