Shirley Garrett Astin, 88, of Crawfordsville, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Whitlock House in Crawfordsville.

She had worked at JC Penney, Montgomery Wards, and CHS Cafeteria and had served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1945. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Eastern Star, and the Rebekah Lodge for 60 years and the Card Club

Born Oct. 22, 1921 in Clinton Falls, IN, she was the daughter of Laurance Ronald and Shirley Greenlee Garrett. She married John Richard Astin in 1946 at Russellville. He died in April of 2005.

Survivors include: a two sons, John R (Linda) Astin Jr., Crawfordsville, and Ronald D. (Donna) Astin, Crawfordsville; a daughter, Sandra K. (Roger) Hutson, Crawfordsville; a sister, Lillian Cox, Springfield, IL; five grandchildren, Anita Fultz, Michael Astin, Gregory Hutson, Marcus Hutson and Ryan Hutson; and nine great-grandchildren, Jessica Astin, Matthew Fultz, Daimyan Astin, Joshua Hutson, Caleb Hutson, Katelyn Hutson, Gerald Hutson, Charles Hutson and George Hutson.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, and Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Isaac Zull officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery North with military rites. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
