Suzanne McCarthy Kalinowski died of liver failure in Indianapolis on June 4, 2011, three days before her 72nd birthday. She was born on June 7, 1939 in Lafayette IN to Mary Elizabeth "Tibi" Kelly and Leo McCarthy. She graduated from Ladywood High School in Indianapolis. After graduation she entered the Sisters of Providence at St Mary-of-the Woods IN where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She remained with the Sisters of Providence for 17 years. After taking her final vows she was assigned to teach at Our Lady of Sorrows in Chicago. It was there that she met her future husband Ted Kalinowski. Ted was assigned there as a Servite Brother. One of Suzie's students was the young Isiah Thomas. Ted was Thomas's first Basketball coach and Suzie (Sister Kevin Ann) was his godmother. After leaving Chicago and the convent, Suzie and Ted came to Crawfordsville where they were married on August 25, 1973 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Eventually they adopted 3 brothers: Chuck (Crystal) of Lafayette IN, Sean of Crawfordsville IN, and Richard. She has 9 grandchildren, Caitlyn, AJ, Hannah, Leo, Shoshanna, Isiah, Madison, Skylar and Destiny. Her sons and grandchildren survive along with Virginia Wilson of Birmingham AL. She continued to teach throughout her life and was principal at St. Bernard's prior to her retirement. She is preceded in death by her sister Mary Pat and her beloved husband. She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.

Services will begin with visitation at St. Bernard's Thursday June 9th from 4-7 with the Mass of Christian Burial at St Bernard's at Noon on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sisters of Providence, St. Mary-of-the Woods IN 47876.
