Vera Birge Arterburn, 84, Crawfordsville, died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday at Williamsburg Healthcare.
She was born to Clarence and Nellie Ritter Birge on Oct. 29, 1922 in Thompkinsville, Ky. She married Homer Arterburn on Feb. 15, 1940. He passed away in January of 1999. She attended Wingate High School.
She was retired from Crawfordsville Community School Corp. and Tuttle Jr. High School.
She was a member of the Darlington Christian Church, Moose Lodge, Eagles Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Dan (Judy) Arterburn of Crawfordsville; two daughters, Nancy (Jim) Monroe of Crawfordsville and Joan (Bob) White of Delphi; a sister, Louise (Richard) Stark of Crawfordsville; several nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild; a brother, Ernest Birge; and a sister, Victoria Merrill.
The funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. Burial will take place at the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Darlington. Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
