Dr. Victoriano G. Viray Jr. passed quietly in the early morning of Oct. 19, 2016, at the Lane House in Crawfordsville at the age of 90. While enduring serious illness, Dr. Viray was called to Heaven to ease his suffering.
Dr. Viray, or "Doc" as many lovingly called him, was born in Makati, Rizal, Philippines on Feb. 22, 1926, where he attended parochial school and eventually graduated from medical school at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. Victoriano arrived in America in 1955 where he met his wife of nearly 60 years, Margaret H. Viray. They were married in Lexington, Kentucky, on Nov. 17, 1956.
Vic was proudly a naturalized citizen of the United States. He spent many years actively involved in the local community, most notably St. Bernard Church and Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid woodworker, wood carver and painter and enjoyed donating his finished projects for auctions and sales to benefit Habitat. Doc was also an adult scouter who helped many young men learn and enjoy Boy Scouting. He always devoted as much of his time and resources as possible to help those around him, his community and his church.
Victoriano is survived by his devoted spouse, Margaret; four loving children, John V. Viray, Maria Viray, Anne Sipahimalani and Joseph Viray; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at St. Bernard Church.
Victoriano requested that in lieu of cards or flowers, please consider donating to Habitat for Humanity or the Mary Ludwig Free Clinic in Crawfordsville.
