Violet L. Newlin, 93, died Sunday in
Lafayette.
Mrs. Newlin was born in Muncie, on July
22, 1915 to William M. Stoops and Margaret
Doughty Stoops. She was a graduate of
Muncie Central High School.
Mrs. Newlin married Lester P. Newlin, Nov.
10, 1934 in Muncie. He preceded her in
death Feb. 19, 1967.
She had a long career in retail merchandising, beginning in
Muncie, followed by Anderson and Crawfordsville. In the mid
1950's Newlin and a friend, Geneva Wilber opened the Modern
Miss in Crawfordsville. She was also a 20 plus year manager
and supervisor for Avon where she suprvised over 150 representitives.
She moved to Lafayette in the late 1990s.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (W. Kelly) Carr of West
Lafayette; a brother, Herman Margell of Muncie; two grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, a sister,
Frances Stoops Miller, and two nephews, Michael and Timothy
Miller all of Muncie.
Graveside services for family and friends will be 10:30 a.m.
Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery North, with Rev. Gary Lewis officiating.
Following the service, friends are invited to join the family
for a luncheon and celebration of life at the Quality Inn, Terrace
Restaurant.
