Virginia McCalment, 83, of Crawfordsville, passed away at 7:36 a.m. Monday at St. Clare Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 23, 1924 in Crawfordsville to Gilbert and Ethel Montgomery Welliever. She went to Crawfordsville schools.

She married Joseph A. Vowels. After Mr. Vowels passed away, she married Max McCalment. He passed away in 2001.

She had been a waitress.

Survivors include three sons, James Vowels of Ladoga, Donnie McCalment or Terre Haute and Ronnie McCalment of Crawfordsville; five daughters, Joyce (Lloyd) Pettit of Crawfordsville, Reva Bigham of Ladoga, Phyllis Turpin of Crawfordsville, Karen Gibson of Crawfordsville and Peggy Black of Crawfordsville; a brother, Harold Welliever of Mooresville; 17 grandchildren; and 26 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Welliever and sisters Louise Wise and Martha Ottenburg.

Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery South with the Rev. Vernon Dowell officiating. There is no visitation.
