Wayne E. Clouse, 88, Crawfordsville, passed away Thursday at Whitlock House.
He was born March 1, 1925 in Parke County to Froman D. and Emma A. (Jeffries) Clouse.
He was raised in Rockville, IN.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 where he served until discharge as a result of being a survivor of one of the biggest naval battles of WWII aboard the U.S.S. St. Lo in October 1944.
He was awarded the Purple Heart on November 18, 1944.
He then spent the next 60 years working for the U.S. Postal Service and was recognized with a 60 year service award from the National Rural Letter Carrie's Association on 2011.
He married Lauranne Young on March 15, 1947 and she preceded him in death in 1991.
He married Edith McDonald on June 26, 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Clouse of 20 years, sister, JO Haskell, Florida, sons, Al (Roxie) Clouse, South Carolina, Jeff Clouse, Chicago, IL; step-daughter, Alice (Bryant) Moore, Crawfordsville, step-son, David (Lisa) McDonald, Indianapolis; sister, Lois Sicotto, Parke County; grandchildren, Rocky (Winnie) Clouse, California, Andy (Megan) Clouse, New Jersey, Jillian Clouse, Washington D.C., Mallory Clouse, Chicago, step-grandchildren, Travis (Christine) Moore, Ohio, Brandon Moore, Crawfordsville, Kelly (Sean) Gerold, Crawfordsville, Erin (T.J.) McCandless, Lake Holiday and seven great-step grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Richard Clouse and step-son, Dennis McDonald.
He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign War and a member of the National Rural Letter Carrie's Association.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Rev. James Ranard officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Entombment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
