William L. Mitchell, 92, of Crawfordsville, passed away at 10:11 a.m. Tuesday at Lane House Nursing Home.
Mr. Mitchell was born Sept. 25, 1915 in Williamsport to James Neal Mitchell and Goldie (Butler) Mitchell.
He attended school in Connersville. He was married to Wilma Ruth Prather. She preceded him in death in 1993. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had owned a Health Aid Company. He was a member of the American Legion Post #72 and was a former assistant chief of sheriff's reserve department.
He is survived by sons, Darrell (Hazel) Mitchell of Waynetown, Ron (Janie) Mitchell of Crawfordsville and Brent (Susan) Mitchell of Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren, Jeff Mitchell, Julie Woodworth, Jason Mitchell, Billy Madden, Amanda Johnson, Summer Nelson, Ben Mitchell, David Wilhite, Donald Wilhite, Brenda Wilhite and Robert Wilhite; 15 great-grandchildren, Josh, Tyler, Megan, Sammy Joe, Ashley, Taylor, Katherine, Travis, Christian, Harley, Nikki, Jake, Mayce, Noah and Elijah; and four great-great-grandchildren, Bailey, Cameron, Mia and Zoey.
He was preceded in death by his wife; brother, Walter Neal; and sister, Gladys Hendricks.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Wilke officiating. Burial is at Oak Hill Cemetery on Grant Avenue with graveside services by the VFW/American Legion.
Friends and family can pay their respects from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
