William E. Moore, 86, Crawfordsville, died 5:10 a.m. Sunday in Williamsburg Healthcare.
Mr. Moore was a farmer in Montgomery and Putnam Counties and worked for Allison G.M., retiring in 1985. Upon retirement, he acquired an auctioneer's license and became an auctioneer.
He was active in several local churches. He was a 1938 Crawfordsville High School graduate. He served in the Amry Air Force from 1944-46.
He was born March 25, 1920 at Crawfordsville to Clarence Edward Stephens and Mary Ellen Stewart. but was later adopted and raised by his stepfather, Jess. F. Moore and his mother. On June 16, 1940, he married Ruth Pauline Himes. She died Dec. 15, 1995.
Surviving are two daughters, Jan Bonifacius, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; and Joy Gregory, North Salem; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Ellen Moore; a brother, Jack Moore; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services are scheduled 10 a.m. Thursday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bock officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation hours are 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
